👀 TLDR: Independent Contractor Taxes

As an independent contractor, taxes won’t be taken out of your paycheck up front. This is very exciting because what you see when you book your shift is exactly what you get in your bank account. However, it’s not so exciting when Uncle Sam comes knocking later.

Our Advice: set some money aside for tax season so you’re prepared.

How much? Talk to a CPA to get a good estimate that pertains to your specific financial situation. ‘Cause honestly, I am not good at math.

🏦 Pro Tip: Throw that money you set aside in a high-interest savings account and make money with your money while you wait!

🦘 How do taxes work with Roo?

When you first sign up for Roo, we’ll ask you to fill out a W-9. Then, if your earnings add up to over $600 in a single calendar year (they very likely will), we’ll email you a single 1099 form that covers all your relief income for the full year each January.

⭐ Roo Tax Features (a.k.a. Easy Mode)

Here are a few of our favorite features to help with taxes:

Your History & Earnings Page tracks your income in real time to help you keep track of how much money you should set aside for tax season. Here, you can break your income down quarterly to calculate quarterly taxes.

Do you need to file quarterly? If you’re expected to owe more than $1,000 in taxes, its best to file quarterly to avoid penalties.

🚗 We also track your milage to and from shifts, which you can use as a tax deduction. Because keeping more of your hard-earned money is always a win!
