Proposing new pay or time
Some shifts may allow you to propose higher pay or different start and end times when submitting your shift request at participating hospitals.
As a general Roominder, it’s helpful to propose adjustments that are fair to both you and the hospital to increase the chances of your request being accepted.
How to propose new pay or time
Step 1: Click “Negotiate” before submitting your shift request
- Before you Request a shift, click the “Negotiate” button to open a new panel where you can enter your proposed adjustments to shift pay or start/end times.
Step 2: Propose new pay or time adjustments
- Enter the proposed amount you’d like to be paid in the “Total pay” field.
- If you’d like to propose a new start or end time for the shift, enter your preferred time in the “Start time” or “End time” fields.
- Once you feel good about your proposed adjustments, click “Request”.
If you only see one of these options, the hospital may have chosen to disable either pay or time adjustments when requesting a shift at their hospital.
Step 3: Hospital reviews your request
- Hospitals can choose to accept or decline your proposed adjustments when reviewing shift requests.
- If your request is declined due to your proposed adjustments, we’ll let you know, and you can try requesting the shift again with the original shift details.
Important things to know
- Hospitals can choose to turn off new pay or start and end time proposals for their practice. For some shifts, this means you may see only one of these options or no “Negotiate” button. Hospitals may also choose to enable flexible shift details when posting a shift.
- If they have flexible details enabled, the post will indicate that start and end times and/or surgery is flexible (Yes/No). You can select your preferred option when requesting the shift.
- At this time, hospitals are unable to counteroffer with a different proposed price or time. They can reach out to our Customer Support Team to try to negotiate a compromise before they decline the shift request. If this occurs, our Customer Support Team will contact you directly to facilitate negotiations.
Best practices to keep in mind
Proposing new pay or time is a collaboration between you and the hospital, helping make the shift successful for both of you and the start of a great Roolationship!
Here are some guidelines to increase your chances of being accepted:
- Hospitals are more likely to accept proposed adjustments that feel balanced and fair. Pay proposals should reflect your skillset and experience and be within a reasonable range.
- Look at pricing for similar shifts in your area to help determine an amount that’s in line with local rates.
- Specialty hospitals or hospitals that need to fill shifts on short notice may be more open to adjustments compared to highly competitive shifts.
- If your proposed adjustments aren’t accepted, you can re-request the shift at the original pay and time if it’s still available.
- Finding the right balance is key! If you’re happy with the current amount, you may not want to make a proposal that risks the opportunity.
