What is an extended coverage shift?

Need a Vet or Tech for an extended stretch, like a leave of absence, vacancy, or busy season? When you need coverage across more than five dates, you can post your shifts as extended coverage. This groups the dates into a single posting, so Vets and Techs on Roo can see the full scope of your need and you get more continuity from the Vet/Tech or small group of Vets/Techs who cover your hospital for the extended coverage period.

How to post an extended coverage request

  1. Select your required dates
  2. Once you have more than five days, toggle on the extended coverage option and select a reason

  1. Select your shift details, review, and post them together.

Note: This feature is in Beta and can currently support a single shift type across the block, if you have different details for different days you will need to post multiple blocks or additional shifts.

  1. Vets will see all of the shifts together, with a total payout for the full block, and can request the ones they’re available to work. There’s no minimum number of shifts they need to request.

  2. You’ll see all their requests with an indication that it is part of extended coverage and can easily choose your preferred coverage.

How many dates do I need to post an extended coverage block?

The extended coverage option becomes available once you’ve selected more than five dates, they do not need to be consecutive.

Do Vets have to request every shift in the block?

No. Vets and Techs can request any shifts in the block they’re available for, with no minimum. You may end up covering a block with one Vet or with several. Either way, you choose.

What if my shift details are different on different days?

At this time, every shift in a block uses the same details. If your needs vary (for example, different hours on certain days), post additional shifts or a separate block for each set of details.

What do Vets see for an extended coverage post?

They see the full group of shifts together, with the total payout, and can then request the specific shifts they are available for.

Can I still post individual shifts instead?

Yes. Extended coverage is optional. It’s designed to help you find continuity when you have a longer coverage need.
